- open envelope and check you haven’t written something weird
- reseal envelope and write address with a crossing-out
- start all over again with new envelope
- hold up to light to check letter still in envelope
- seal up with sticky tape in case envelope comes open
- weigh to make sure recipient doesn’t have to pay surcharge
- post in mailbox
- waggle hand in slot to check letter not stuck
- walk away
- look back to check letter hasn’t blown back out and onto the ground
- start thinking about the hundreds of miles the letter has to travel
- go home and send email instead
